In the Ukraine, Spam eats you!
Are any other bloggers getting doused with Ukrainian comment spam? I don’t see a whole lot of comment or trackback spam. Akismet does a pretty good job of keeping it filtered out before it hits my moderation queue. However, the past week and a half has seen a steady stream of comment and trackback spam from .ua servers hitting my inbox for moderation.
I guess Akismet can’t catch it since it’s all in Russian. I did Babel Fish translations on a few of the trackbacks, though, and it’s all garbled and nonsensical, even for a translation.
For that matter, my spam filters on my Media Temple have gotten pretty lazy the last month or so. Over half the total email volume that hits my inbox is spam. It used to be less than 20%.
Is spam getting smarter? Do we need to start cooking up new algorithms to beat the slimy scourge?
