Preparing for a keynote

Late last week I agreed to be the keynote speaker at the Oklahoma City Ad Club’s Career Day on November 12. I got the invitation based on my From Cowboy To Astronaut presentation that I gave to the Oklahoma State University Ad Club last year.

The presentation above detailed the infancy of my career followed by a summary of new technologies and emerging media channels that might be of interest to a graduating student. For this presentation I know that I want to reverse that emphasis and make it much more about upcoming issues than about how I got started. After that, my mind takes me in a million directions, and I want to capture most of it so I can start to focus it into something fresh.

As I brainstorm for this new presentation, I’d love to hear from you. If the discussion turns fruitful, I’ll be positioning this as a collaborative presentation created by the members of my social and business network.

Social media marketing should be old hat to these kids so I’m looking for something fresh (even though it’ll be in there). Micro-content is a great start. Gaming will be in there, as will virtual worlds and mobile. Last time out I had geotargeted messaging in there as well as TiVo/DVR messaging. I need to research those more to make a more meaningful point for those.

Is there anything on the horizon that you’re passionate about that I might miss as I start casting my idea net? Discuss in the comments. And please, pass this on. I’d like to see this turn into a discussion that might benefit any of us who have to speak about this subject in the near future.
